Review – Dirty Linen
A vital cog in the wheel of Canadian music for more than four decades, multi-instrumentalist Ken Whiteley has appeared, alone or with his brother Chris, on more than 150 albums, and has produced albums by John Hammond, Tom Paxton, Cathy Fink, Sharon, Lois and Bram, Fred Penner and Raffi, among others. Accompanied by 31 musicians and singers, including students of the Alan Howard Waldorf School in Toronto and the Oakwood Collegiate Chamber Orchestra, Whiteley steps into the spotlight with ‘Join the Band’ his fourth solo children’s album. In addition to a baker’s dozen worth of original tunes about peanut butter, zoos, music and the water cycle, the album includes adaptations of folk tunes including ‘Les haricots sont pas sale’ ‘Rattlin’ Bog’ ‘This Little Light’ and a swinging rendition of Louis Jordan’s ‘Push Ka Pee Shee Pie’
