Review
While stressing the importance of reading, storyteller Sally Jaeger reminds viewers that the oral tradition builds listening skills imagination, and a love of language." Aimed at patents and adult caregivers as well as little ones, this engaging follow-up to ‘From Wibbleton to Wobbleton’ features songs and finger-plays, for toddlers and preschoolers. Primarily taped inside a library, where Jaeger leads a story group the program also includes cutaways to families telling stories/singing songs outdoors Most works are original but there are also classics such as 'The Gingerbread Man' sprinkled throughout. A twenty-year veteran of the profession, Jaeger is also an excellent toddler wrangler, so the tape would be good training for librarians planning on a career in children's services. A natural for public libraries, day care centers, and universities with library programs. Highly recommended.

Sally Jaeger: Mr. Bear Says Hello (49 North Productions) -- Most of us have figured out by now that parenting doesn't come as naturally as we might have expected. And one of the things that never seems to emerge when we most need it is a song -- a ditty, a rhyme, a finger play, anything that might amuse, distract, engage or just help us bond with our children. Sally Jaeger is a Toronto storyteller who has spent the past 20 years teaching parents of very young children stories and songs that have been passed down for generations. Groups of eager parents join her circle time classes to delight in the giggles of their wee ones as a song ends with a tickle or a clap. One such parent, Janice Dawe was so enthralled with Jaeger's baby classes that she produced a video of it called From Wibbleton to Wobbleton. It went on to sell well and win awards and now Dawe has produced the follow-up: Mr. Bear Says Hello. Mr. Bear is targeted to parents and their preschoolers and takes you through one of Jaeger's classes, interspersed with scenes of parents using the rhymes and songs in everyday life. It comes with an indispensable lyric sheet (pocket-sized) and, once you watch the video a couple times, will equip you with a formidable repertoire to get you through the preschool years.
